Certified in accordance with the EU Animal Health RegulationBmTierSSchV) and therefore approved for trade in EU-certified hatcheries and abroad.

The Bresse*Gauloise breed is particularly suitable for direct marketing farms with small groups. The eggs are somewhat smaller but particularly tasty. As the animals are purebred, it is very easy to reproduce them on the farm without the splitting effects of a cross breed.

* ÖTZ Bresse Gauloises from German parental herds, hatched and reared in Germany.

Please note that “Bresse” is a protected designation of origin. This means that the meat of Bresse chickens may not be declared as Bresse meat outside France. In Germany, the animals and the meat are therefore referred to as Bresse Gauloise or Les Bleues.

Behaviour

ÖTZ Bresse Gauloise hens are friendly, self-confident and lively, but can be a little skittish as pullets.

TIP

They are robust and frugal animals whose nutritional and physiological requirements are already met by low nutrient concentrations.
The provision of crude fiber (e.g. bran, silage, hay) in the feed mixture is highly recommended. If the feed is too rich, ÖTZ Bresse Gauloise hens tend to become fatty, which reduces laying performance. Laying hens should always be in good condition and should not exceed the recommended maximum live weight of 2.8 to 3 kilograms.

Behaviour

Roosters should be kept in a group of roosters only until a maximum of 17 weeks when they reach sexual maturity. After that, the potential for aggression increases and growth stagnates.

TIP

ÖTZ Bresse Gauloise are very suitable for extensive fattening with alternative feed components (sprouted grain, potatoes, oats, whey, etc.). Nevertheless, starvation should be avoided under any circumstances.
